Band What the examiner expects
5.5 Basic communication is possible, but expect frequent pauses, hesitation, and searching for words. Limited vocabulary and grammar; errors often obscure meaning.
6.0 Can speak at length with some fluency, but may pause to search for ideas or vocabulary. Some errors and awkward phrasing, though meaning is usually clear.
6.5 More fluent and coherent. Can self-correct and expand on answers. Still some hesitation or grammar slips, but they rarely interfere with communication.
7.0 Speaks fluently with only occasional hesitation. Good range of vocabulary and grammatical structures. Meaning is always clear.
7.5 Very fluent and confident. Natural rhythm and pronunciation. Occasional slips but no impact on communication.
8.0 Speaks effortlessly, naturally, and accurately. Wide vocabulary, precise grammar, excellent pronunciation. Very few or no mistakes.
