Strategies & Tips
📋

Know the Format

There are four parts with a variety of recordings — conversations, monologues, and interviews. Practise with past tests to get comfortable with the structure.

🎙

Build Your Listening Skills

Regularly listen to English podcasts, news, and videos. Expose yourself to different accents and speech speeds to handle any speaker on test day.

🔍

Predict the Content

Before each recording, quickly skim the questions. This gives you a clear idea of what to listen for and keeps your attention on the relevant details.

🔑

Listen for Keywords & Synonyms

The words in the questions are often rephrased in the recording. Staying alert to synonyms and paraphrases helps you identify the correct answers quickly.

🎯

Stay Focused

You only hear each recording once. If you miss an answer, move on immediately — don't get stuck and miss the next question too.

✏️

Underline Key Information

As you listen, underline or highlight essential words in the questions. This keeps you organised and helps you locate answers quickly during review time.

🗺

Follow Signpost Words

Words like "however", "firstly", "finally", and "although" guide you through the structure of a recording. Understanding them keeps you on track with the speaker's points.

1️⃣

Watch Singular & Plural Nouns

Pay attention to whether an answer requires a singular or plural form — this is a common source of errors that can cost you marks.

Use Your Extra Time Wisely

You're given time before each section to read the questions. Use it to read ahead and thoroughly understand what's being asked before the audio begins.

📝

Take Concise Notes

You can write on the question paper during the test. Practise taking short, organised notes to help recall information when writing your final answers.

🧪

Practise with Timed Tests

Take as many practice tests as you can under timed conditions. This builds time-management skills and grows your confidence for the real exam.

🔄

Review Your Mistakes

After every practice test, go through each incorrect answer carefully. Understanding why you made a mistake is the fastest way to stop making it again.

💡 Remember: Consistent practice and regular exposure to English audio are the keys to improvement. The more accents, speeds, and topics you encounter before the test, the more prepared you'll be on the day. Good luck!
